A tribute to my mom

In honor of Mother's Day, I thought I'd post a story about my mom.

Shortly after they moved into this house, my mom was discovering all of the "native" plants that were growing around it. One night, around 11 or so, we were both online chatting via instant message. (We did that a lot.) They didn't have DSL or RoadRunner, so she asked me to look up a plant that was baffling her. I asked her to describe it, and she'd say, hold on, let me go check. Instead of actually going outside (it was 11!), she'd go into the other room, open the window, and shine a flashlight down on the plant to look at it. After she was done observing it, she'd return to the computer room and describe it. This went on for at least half an hour.

So the story seems pointless, I know. But, think about it. It's 11 o'clock at night, totally dark out, and here's a new neighbor opening her window every 5 to minutes, shining a flashlight on the ground, and then closing it! I always laugh when I think of her doing that. :) We didn't find out what the plant was that night, but when it went to seed, we found out it was money plant.

Most of the money plant is now gone from around our house, and our late night IM sessions are gone, but a few individual plants are left behind, and they bloom around Mother's Day. I always look and laugh when I see them.

Rest in peace, Mom. I love you!
